The test principle of

Under the prescribed conditions, the horizontal samples were exposed to a small ignition source, hexamethylenetetramine tablets (hereinafter referred to as tablets), and the damage length and flame spread time after the test were measured.

The attachment list

When you open the package, please check the following materials:

1 test box: the internal size of the test box is 300mm×300mm×300mm. It is made of hard fire-resistant insulating board, which has the heat resistance similar to asbestos cement, and the thickness is not less than 6mm.

The top of the box is open and there is a movable bottom plate made of the same material, and the joint is sealed.

Note: Any other test box that can give the same result can be used.

Square metal plate: 230mm×230mm, thick (6.5±0.5)mm, with a circular hole with a diameter of 205mm in the middle.

Dryer: to store tablets and drying samples, it is recommended to use color-changing silica gel as a desiccant.

Oven: there should be ventilation and constant temperature control.

The temperature inside the box is (105±2)℃.

Gloves: Polyethylene, polypropylene and silica gel gloves are available.

Steel ruler: The dividing value is in millimeters.

Vacuum cleaner: All surfaces in contact with the sample should be flat and smooth.

Laboratory fume hood: the volume is about 2m3. It is airtight and the exhaust device can be closed during the test.

The front or one side of the fume hood shall be provided with a glazed window for viewing specimens.

Tablet: hexamethylenetetramine (commercial name ullotropin) flat tablet, each tablet has a mass of (150±5)mg and a diameter of 6mm.

Note: Tablets stored in a dryer can reduce the phenomenon of ignition rupture.

Timer: Stopwatch is optional.

2.1 Sample and humidity control

The use of cushions is not specified and, if approved by the parties concerned, this method may be used to assess the combined effect of carpets and cushions.

The wet sample

Clean sample with vacuum cleaner, get rid of the loose nap on the head and other sundry.

According to the specific conditions, one of the following methods shall be used to humidify the sample. The sample shall be placed individually, with the blanket face up, or in a method agreed by the parties concerned:

Method A: According to ISO139, the sample was placed in the standard atmosphere with temperature (20±2)℃ and relative humidity (65±4)% for 24h, and then taken out and placed in a sealed container.

Method B: Put the sample in an oven at (105±2)℃ for 2h, then transfer the sample into a dryer until it reaches room temperature.

Note: The sample controlled by method B is more strict, while the sample controlled by method A is more realistic. The method should be chosen according to the specific situation.

2.2 Test Steps

1. The test should be carried out in the atmosphere with temperature ranging from 10℃ to 30℃ and relative humidity ranging from 20% to 65%.

2. Put the test chamber into the ventilator and turn off the exhaust device.

3. Put on gloves and take out a sample from the dampening atmosphere or dryer. For the pile sample, brush the pile along the direction against the pile tip to the upright position.

4. Place the sample face up on the bottom plate of the test box, place the metal plate on the sample, and align the four sides with the sample.

5. Take a tablet and place it flat on the center of the sample. Gently contact the surface of the tablet with the flame of a lit match or igniter to ignite the tablet.

If timing is required, start the stopwatch. Be careful not to touch the specimen with a lit match or the flame of the igniter.

The interval between the sample taking from the container or dryer and the tablet igniting should be controlled within 2min. If more than 2min, another sample should be taken and tested again according to 3~5.

If the tablet is broken on ignition, the test results will be invalid.

6 The ignited flame or any spreading flame shall burn until extinguished, allowing flame or non-flame to spread to any edge of the metal plate hole. If either of the above two conditions are met, the test shall be terminated, the timing shall be stopped immediately, the exhaust device of the fume hood shall be opened, and the smoke and toxic QI body shall be removed.

The maximum distance, in millimeters (mm), from the center of the specimen to the edge of the damaged area is measured with a steel ruler.

Remove the sample and remove the residue from the bottom plate of the test box.

Sufficient time shall be allowed between tests for the chamber to cool to room temperature ±5℃.

Repeat the remaining seven samples according to the method specified in 4~5.

Use a timer in seconds to measure the time it takes for the tablet to ignite into flame or non-flame to extend to the edge of the plate hole, if required.
