Detailed introduction:

The manual tear strength tester is based on the APPITA method and complies with BRITISH, ISO, SCAN, TAPPI, M&S and other national and international standards. It consists of three exchangeable swing hammers, light, medium and heavy, with a range of up to 32,000 mN, sample cutter, two auger and Allen Allen Allen wrenches.

Order 1, 2 or 3 more pendulums if necessary, or order again later.


Special pendulums can add up to 64,000 mN to the weight of the tested thick textiles, as well as using heavy sample cutters.

The testing process

The sample was cut with the cutter provided by the instrument as British, APPITA & SCAN method was 50 x 62mm, and the actual tear length was 43mm(19mm less than the original incision of 62mm).


The size of the sample cut by TAPPI was 50 x 63mm, and the actual tear length was 43mm(20mm less than the original incision of 63mm).


The sample cutter is provided with a ruler marked in mm.

Two black plastic straps are secured to the cutter support table and the shorter one is used to cut 62mm below the ruler (British, APPITA & SCAN


Methods) or 63mm (for the TAPPI method) while the longer shaping tape is clipped by 50mm


Width (this is not a critical size).


When the blade is put down, a long plastic band shear material is obtained, and a sample with a width of 50mm is obtained.

When the sheet is put down, the shorter plastic band cuts the material and a sample of 50 x 62mm or 50 x 63mm is obtained according to the method used.


Select and assemble the appropriate pendulum


Select the appropriate pendulum and assemble it as described in Chapter 1.


3. Install test sample


When the pendulum is in its initial position, the 4 test samples are selected with the rougher one facing the knife edge, and clamped in the center of the clamp so that each lower edge is at the bottom of the mouth and the sample's sides coincide.

The blade rotates the cut test sample and returns to the balance position.

As can be seen, the rotating blade cuts a 19mm(British, APPITA & SCAN method), 20mm(TAPPI method) zui initial incision on the sample, releasing the remaining 43mm of the pendulum shear.


The blade can be sharpened and rearranged if necessary. The adjustment is simply to loosen the two blade fixing screws and move the blade outward until a 19 or 20mm cut is made (length depending on method).
